Transport Supervisor

Pertemps are delighted to be recruiting for a temporary Supervisor to work with our public sector client in Edinburgh for a busy School Transport department
Location - Edinburgh East
Rate of pay - £16.37
Hours - Mon-Fri 36 hours per week
Duration - minimum 6 months
Immediate start
Duties to include:
- Support the Team Leader operating scheduled transport rosters to meet planned and unplanned demand for transport services.
- Support the Team Leader with the co-ordination and delivery of all aspects of transport services including controlling activities, planning, organisation and risk control
- Monitor, evaluate and report on transport activities according to the evaluation framework and recommend any changes to enhance the service
- Ensure that scheduled and demand responsive operations are delivered effectively and that drivers and passenger assistants comply with policy and procedures.
- As appropriate allocate new passengers to suitable vehicle journeys, including private hire contracts.
- Monitor and plan routes in keeping with Booking and Scheduling technology
- Respond to daily non scheduled and demand responsive requests using approved Booking and Scheduling Technology and implement any operational changes to transport arrangements.
- Meet with Travel Advisors, Team Leader and Citywide Service Manager colleagues and relevant agencies e.g. Fleet Maintenance on maintenance and modification matters and ensure that servicing arrangements are fulfilled.
- Respond to vehicle breakdowns and defects, maintain accurate operational fleet list and records relating to defects, service history, vehicle downtime and non availability.
- Provide the Citywide Service Manager with monthly reports including statistical information relating to operational performance.
- Maintain a Booking and Scheduling System and ensure that agreed procedures for the use of internal/external hired vehicles, including checks, are carried out.
- Ensure all vehicles are present and note any damage or problems which may prevent the vehicle being used.
- Ensure that vehicles are maintained in a hygienic condition with reference to Infection Control Policy.
- Assist the Citywide Service Manager and Team Leader in the recruitment of drivers and Passenger Assistants.
- Arrange for the timeously collection and delivery of goods, equipment, and stationary.
- Organise call off hires, including taxis, following agreed procedures.
- Maintain appropriate levels of passenger safety equipment and other designated safety equipment.
- Maintain vehicles and personal accident reports and ensure they are correctly completed and forwarded to the appropriate officer.
- Deliver agreed training or lectures, arrange and facilitate external training provision, undertake driving/ passenger assistant assessments and arrange bookings for driving tests.
- Undertake the general supervision of drivers/passenger assistants and apply all of the HR policies and procedures.
- Administer preparation of overtime, expenses and sickness documentation for drivers, checking of fleet log sheets
- Ensure a staff roster is up to date to maximise driver and passenger assistant capacity.
- Assist the Citywide Service Manager to resolve complaints and address service delivery issues/problems.
Successful applicants must:
- Have previous experience in a supervisory role
- Have knowledge of Microsoft applications such as outlook, word, excel
- Have knowledge and understanding of booking and scheduling systems
- Have excellent customer service skills
- Be able to deal with members of the public in difficult situations
- Have excellent time keeping skills
- Be honest, trustworthy and punctual
- Have good problem solving skills
- Be flexible
- Work well in a team
A D1 drivers licence is desirable.
