About the Role
As part of a specialist team, you’ll support Blacksmiths and other trades in the installation, repair and maintenance of:
- Street furniture
- Parks and greenspace infrastructure
- Housing and public safety equipment
- Railings, fencing and playground installations
- Roads, pavements and associated groundworks
- Your work will help keep local public spaces safe, functional and attractive for residents and visitors.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with repair, installation and refurbishment of street furniture and park infrastructure
- Carry out groundworks, fencing and simple joinery/engineering tasks
- Support the manufacture of new items and components
- Remove damaged or vandalised structures, including play equipment
- Install railings, signposts, handrails and other structures
- Work on building repairs, emergency call-outs and countryside/walkway maintenance
- Erect scaffolding and prepare areas for events and public installations
- Operate plant machinery (e.g. excavators, telehandlers, forklifts) if trained
- Complete risk assessments and follow safety procedures at all times
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in a workshop environment
- Strong knowledge of installing, inspecting and repairing street furniture
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings
- Practical skills in joinery, metalwork, or general engineering
- Ability to plan work, solve problems and work flexibly
- Good communication skills
- Street Works (Signing, Lighting & Guarding) certification
- Knowledge of current health & safety legislation
- Abrasive wheels, PASMA, forklift, gas equipment safety or other relevant certificates (desirable)
